A candle warmer lamp uses heat from an overhead bulb to warm the surface of a compatible jar candle. As the top layer of wax melts, fragrance gradually spreads through the room without lighting the wick. Some models offer adjustable height or heating intensity, allowing you to control how quickly the wax melts and how strongly the scent develops.
Place the candle in the center of the base and leave the clearance specified in the product instructions. Adjust the height or brightness if available, then switch on the lamp. Keep the wick unlit throughout use. When finished, switch off the power and allow the candle and lamp to cool before moving them.
How Wax Warmers Work and How to Use Them
A wax warmer uses heat from a bulb or built-in heating element to melt scented wax in a warming dish. The wax can be reheated until its fragrance fades, then replaced with another scent. Some designs also provide soft ambient light. Decorative tabletop models can become part of a room’s décor, while compact plug-in warmers suit smaller spaces.
Add a small amount of scented wax to a clean, dry dish and switch on the warmer. Add more only if the dish has enough capacity. Do not add water or overfill it. After use, switch off the power and let the wax and dish cool completely before changing the wax or moving the warmer. Keep plug-in models upright and away from sinks, baths and other water sources.
What Is a 2-in-1 Element Wax Warmer
A 2-in-1 element wax warmer combines the flexibility of a wax warmer with the ability to warm a compatible jar candle. An electric heating element warms wax melts in the removable dish or a jar candle placed on the warming plate beneath.[1] It is a practical option if you enjoy both formats and prefer to use one appliance.
For wax melts, keep the dish in place. For a jar candle, remove the dish and place the candle directly on the warming plate, where it is heated from below. Keep the wick unlit, check the manufacturer’s candle size and container requirements, and let the warmer cool completely before switching formats.
The Differences Between Candle Warmers and Wax Warmers
The main differences are the fragrance format and the direction of heat. Candle warmer lamps heat jar candles from above. Most wax warmers heat wax melts in a dish, while 2-in-1 element warmers accommodate either wax melts or compatible jar candles, warming the candles from below.
All three work without an open flame. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency identifies candle burning as a source of indoor particulate matter.[2] NFPA’s May 2020 tables show that, in 2014–2018, combustible materials being too close to the heat source contributed to more than half of home candle fires.[3] Electric warmers still require care around hot wax and heated surfaces. Use tabletop models on stable, heat-resistant surfaces and follow the product instructions.
